Dentistry and the cosmetics industry share common ground. They both use tools that can be used to improve your confidence regarding your appearance. One of those tools is Restylane, a product that can add volume to your facial tissues and eliminate facial wrinkles and folds.
At EVDP, we maintain a strong interest and profess expertise in both dental and cosmetic work. Our team of qualified professionals can administer Restylane treatments in the Mesa area. If you want to alter your facial volume or remove wrinkles that have negatively affected your self-confidence, restylane might be right for you.
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a clear gel made of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance that can be found throughout your body. Since the acid is produced naturally in your body, there is low risk of allergic reaction.
Patients can utilize Restylane to correct and fill moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Whether your wrinkle is small and new or you have a large line that has bothered you for years, Restylane may improve your appearance by filling in your wrinkles and add healthy volume to any area you desire.
There are two common areas of the face that usually receive restylane treatments.
- Nasolabial fold: These lines run from each side of your nose down to the corners of your mouth. They are commonly known as “laugh lines” or “smile lines.”
- Marionette lines: These are the lines that run downward from the corners of your mouth towards your chin.
However, you can receive Restylane treatments on other areas of your face as well. For patients over the age of 21, Restylane and Restylane Silk can also be used for lip augmentation. Both of these treatments, which have been approved by the FDA, may improve the fullness and definition of your lips.
How long does it last?
Like all injectable fillers, Restylane is a temporary treatment, usually lasting about six months. Since it is not permanent, you will need to have the treatment administered every six months to retain your results.
How does it work?
With Restylane, you choose the area of injection based on where you want to correct or fill a wrinkle or fold. After you select the location, one of our team members at EVDP will select the exact injection point, apply antiseptic, and inject an appropriate amount of restylane filler beneath your skin.
Upon injection, the hyaluronic acid filler sticks to the inside of the skin. The acid also contains water, which helps restore the volume to the recessions and wrinkles in your face. Restylane injectables typically resolve your wrinkles and recessions within a few days.
Is it effective?
Restylane is most effective in eliminating moderate wrinkles and fine lines that cannot be filled or taken care of with alternative cosmetic procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or Botox. It is specifically formulated to use chemicals already in your body, which makes Restylane one of the best cosmetic procedures for adding volume to your face.
Its effectiveness has already been proven for filling small to medium sized facial wrinkles, but clinical studies are being conducted to test if it can combat contour deficiencies and if it can be used for cheek augmentations.
Is Restylane right for you?
Restylane is not the best option for everyone. One important factor to consider is the cost. While one treatment will not break the bank, it is a temporary solution, which means that you will have to pay for treatments as often as every six months.
If you are looking for a permanent solution, then other options such as a facelift or forehead lift may make more sense for you. If your lifestyle permits the cost and frequency of treatments, then Restylane may be the perfect fit for you.
Is it safe?
Restylane is an exceptionally safe procedure. While there are some potential side effects, there are no known significant risks.
A few days after the procedure, you will most likely experience significant swelling at the site of the injection. This is normal and to be expected, and nothing that you should be concerned about. You will be able to resume your regular daily activities immediately after receiving the treatment.
As with any medical or cosmetic treatment, there is always the risk of potential side effects. Here are some infrequent negative repercussions that occur because of Restylane.
- Nausea
- Headache
- Pain at injection site
- Muscle weakness
