Helping You Achieve Your Dream Smile

Cosmetic dentistry can be an exciting area where minor or significant changes can be made to give you the smile you've dreamed about!

Cosmetic dentistry procedures may be as simple as slightly reshaping teeth, fixing restorations into place, orthodontics, or in some cases surgery. Our office provides a variety of options to help you achieve your dental goals, including teeth whitening, Invisalign, veneers, Lumineers, porcelain crowns, and bonding.

Our team will take the time to get to know you and your smile.  We will listen as you describe the dental improvement you would like to see and give honest feedback about your treatment options and expected results.  We want you to have healthy teeth and gums and a bright and confident smile.

We see patients of all ages and all walks of life.  Despite the many differences in their teeth there are some common cosmetic issues that we most often address.  Common patient complaints are discolored teeth, damaged teeth, gaps or spacing between teeth and crooked teeth.

Tooth Discoloration

Tooth discoloration is quite common and can have numerous causes.  Coffee, tea and smoking can cause the outer layer of teeth, or enamel, to become stained or yellow in color.  Other discolorations can be caused be antibiotics given to children or pregnant mothers.  Severe trauma and aging can also cause discolorations.  For instance, a fall that caused a tooth to be hit with great force could cause the interior of the tooth, or dentin, to become discolored.  Also, as we age, the dentin in our teeth naturally yellows and darkens.  The layer of enamel is translucent, which means the yellowing of the dentin over time is very noticeable to others.

Cosmetic dentistry can actually be the cause of less than bright white teeth.  If you have dental work, such as a crown put in place and then whiten your teeth after the fact, your crown will appear discolored.  This is because your dentist will create your crown based on the existing color of your teeth.  You should always let your dentist know if you would like to whiten your teeth before any dental work.  In most cases, you will want to whiten your teeth first so that your dental professional can match any crowns, veneers or prosthetics to your other, newly whitened teeth.

Solutions for discolored teeth will depend on the cause.  If the outer layer or enamel is discolored, a simple deep cleaning or teeth whitening procedure may yield the desired results.  If the discoloration is caused by trauma, a crown or veneer may be more successful options.  Once we have implemented your treatment plan we will work with you on the best upkeep and dental hygiene practices so that you can keep your smile bright and white for years to come.

Decaying and
Damaged Teeth

Decaying or damaged teeth are another reason for cosmetic consideration.  If you suffer from a damaged tooth you can pursue dental treatments that address the health and appearance of the tooth.  Dental decay can occur over time due to: poor dental hygiene habits, genetically predisposed teeth, sugary foods, acidic foods and drinks and improper nutrition.  While teeth are naturally strong, damage and cracks can occur with any time of hard fall or injury.  Depending on the type and severity of your tooth damage, your treatment options consist of a root canal, crown, veneer, composite bonding or dental implant.  Immediate care is important when dealing with these types of issues.  Cracks or decay can spread and eventually damage the root of a tooth.  If you have tooth damage or decay, visit a dental professional as soon as possible.   The sooner you seek treatment the more likely you will be able to save the tooth.

Gaps and Spacing
Between Teeth

Spacing and gaps between the teeth are also a common cosmetic complaint.  These gaps are often naturally occurring but can be cosmetically corrected.  Teeth bonding is a technique used to fill and disguise the gap between teeth.  A skilled dental professionals uses a composite resin and bonding material to carefully fit the resin in the gap and adhere it in place.  This technique fills in the gap so that it is no longer noticeable.  Depending on the size of the space between teeth, your dentist may also be able to simply close it by bringing the teeth together slowly over time.  The size of the space and the condition of your teeth will help determine which is the best choice for you.

Crooked Teeth

Gone are the days of a mouth full of metal braces.  There have been wonderful advances within the field of dentistry that may now allow patients to straighten their teeth without anyone else the wiser.  Retainers, expanders and various specially designed appliances can be used to manipulate the teeth into a more desirable, straight line.  Invisalign is a perfect example of a clear and barely perceptible straightening tool.  Your dental needs and current state of your teeth will dictate what device and strategy is best for you.

Cosmetic dentistry can give you the confidence you need to show off your smile.  As your dental experts, we will take the time to find the cause of any issue and develop the most effective treatment plan possible.
